Basement Finishing & Remodeling in Loganville

Family rooms, guest suites, offices and baths built below the main floor, starting with a moisture check and a sealed stairwell so the dust stays down there.

A Project Under Your Feet

A basement finish happens right below the rooms you live in, and usually the only way down is your stairway. We cover the treads and the route to them, put a plastic dust barrier across the top and clean up before leaving each day.

Before any framing, we look hard for water: staining, damp corners, white crust on the block. Drywall over a damp wall only hides the problem, so any fix comes first.

What the Basement Finish Includes

  • Moisture check and fixes

Walls, slab and the grading outside are checked for water before framing. Anything that needs correcting is priced on the estimate and handled before insulation.

  • Framing around what's there

Partitions are planned to work with the support posts, ducts and furnace area, and ceilings are dropped or boxed wherever the headroom and access to valves allow.

  • Bedrooms that meet code

Sleeping space below grade requires an egress window or exterior door someone can climb out through, enough headroom and smoke alarms. Your county or city code sets the exact figures.

  • A bath or bar downstairs

Add a bathroom, a half bath or a bar sink, and the drains, water lines and circuits each one needs are written into the basement scope. Anything below the sewer line may need a pump.

Order of Work Downstairs

  1. Seal off the stairs

Before anything else, the stair treads get padded and a plastic barrier goes across the top step. Water problems found during the check are fixed next.

  2. Build the bones

Partition walls get framed, then wiring, heating and cooling runs and any new drains go in, all left open until required inspections are done.

  3. Close in and clean out

Insulation and drywall go up, followed by trim, doors, paint and fixtures. The basement and stairs get a full cleaning before furniture comes down.

Before You Finish the Basement

Will the work be noticeable upstairs?

You'll hear framing and cutting at times. Dust is easier to control: the stairwell is sealed at the top, the treads are covered and the basement is cleaned daily, so the main floor stays in normal use.

Our basement gets damp after storms. Can we still finish it?

Often yes, once the source is dealt with. That may be grading or drainage outside, or cracks and seepage inside. The fix comes before framing, because finished walls over moisture turn into a bigger repair later.

Put the Basement to Work
